NvM there are crossed wires here.

Here is what I have picked up so far.

Who said what?

I would like to see a few more "Post of the Month" or "WH quote of the week" sorts of threads for posts made purely about historical things.

fusong
1. One of the users bring up weekly an historical newspaper from 30+ years ago and bring up the contents in it for discussion, of course the only rule is that the newspaper should have been released on the current day. Sort of like this day and history but a little upgraded

2. We could organize a community effort to create one big triva history quiz- use that as a way to bring up subjects that dont get as much attention

3. Create a Relgion Contest
I know you are looking and your saying what the hell?
for those that love alt history make a good realistic scenario about a religion that never existed mind you this new "religion" could be a branch off of one of the OTL major ones.

4ZZZ
I feel that this site has lost a bit of the more sensible historical discussion. I gain the impression that it has reached the point where the only discussions that carry much interest are debates between those with certain nationalistic and/or regional bias and will constantly fight for that position to the bitter end

gcle2003
Fusong, you're right about the interest quizzes raise. Thing is we used to have them, but I gather they ran into software problems that didn't get solved. I don't know what the state of play is technically, but I'd be happy to come up with a range of questions.

I have a few comments to what is said...

PoH

Feel fre to start debating movies - we do have a tread about movies though.

CXI

Couldn't you - and a couple of your friends here - start finding "Post of the Month" and "WH quote of the week". Your group could be responsible for posting that... - it would be great

fusong

All good ideas  - kudus to you.

I have seen you already have started something and thats great.

You idea about the alt. religion could be fun too - but I guess you'll have to kickstart it.

4ZZZ

Yes - you are probably right about that. But things evolve from one thing to another over time.

When this community was started, everything was new and exciting for the group of history students (and others) who started it.  A lot of history was discussed and articles were written (look in library).

Noone is left of the original group and we don't have many members with time enough to dedicate here compared to earlier. The way to change things are - take the lead of the direction you want - more will follow I'm sure.

gcle and fusong about the quiz

We do have an engine which can handle the quiz - I set it up last year and we did test it - remember Graham?

But is there interest enough?

More pointers...

A

We also have new software for the magazine - I suggested we changed the concept a bit around, but when we asked around about editors, the result was nothing but a wet firecracker...

Earlier it was exclusively history articles....   - the new concept could be more like a tabloib - whats going on here - in the world - plus historic articles...

The new editors can decide.... - who are they?

B
CXI created a flier to be posted and circulated to education institutions and elsewhere - nobody asked me for stamps or copies...

C

I have made some links/banners to be used for linkexchange - you can find them on the forum.

Any takers for that job? Will improve ranking.

D

I think it's time to ask someone who is Wiki-savy to get on Wikipedia. Mix - are you there... or Graham?

There are more things we could do - but lets see some of these in bloom before taking more upon us.

CXI will manage "Post of the Month" and "WH quote of the week" - great Thumbs Up
Do you need a team/commitee to work with?

Now for the rest of the suggestions and ideas....

1) We need a PR team
     - flyers
     - linkexchange
     -Wiki

2) We need editors for the magazine

3) We need a quizmaster or a team of quizmasters...

Don't be shy - we are all here for the sake of the community....

Thats great - gcle2003 and fusong - thank you for responding.
Here is my thoughts on this.....

gcle (and other interested)
I think we can use the format we tried last year for the TotalQuiz ...
It's based on Google documents (form) and fairly straight forward to use and publish on a webpage.
I used an Iframe:   http://www.worldhistoria.com/tq/
Let me know what you think - I know you know your way around webpages, but do you need my help with the setup, or.... - let me hear your thoughts..

fusong (and other interested)
I have seen you like to write - so you could become editor or co-editor on the Magazine.
Previously we have had a mag. published on a webpage. It has always been a hassle to get it up and running, and only because of a few dedicated members, did we manage to get the issues up - and fewer and fewer along the way.
Time for a change....
What I suggest is, that we will do a monthly magazine - not necessarily with historical articles, but more about what is going on in the community and on the forum.

If you aren't good with graphics and such, then I can make the magazine itself - but with content from you, the council, a few selected members and who else might be interested. Your job could be to gather all the material and organise it page-wise.
We will make coloums for each writer - a page for the council (who was banned and why - what issues has been at table etc...
Just ideas - I'm sure we can brainstorm and get a lot more on the table...
I have made a test example - just so you can see what I mean (the text is rubbish)... and as you can see, we can also use it for promoting articles on the library - by icluding something historical  - copy a little from the library - like the portrait I have used ...
Everyone...
We can use more quizmasters - more editors
and of course - more anything like listed above  ...  PR-team in example...

Adds, which adds? Shocked I was blocked them. Now on, I'll give a try.

Also, I demand better imocations, current ones obvibiously outdated. Most of them useless.

I don't know which set is this but I really like it:

I strike trought useless ones. Rest are pretty good and modern looking, there are plenty of them to express emotions.

However, I myself find it hard to see why those ugly tiny critters you have posted should be better than what we have already?
What emotions do you have that you cannot express?

I am stinking rich compared to most people on this planet.... I even have a car and a computer. Shocked
But I guess that doesn't qualify for being rich in your club. I have heard of people having TWO cars!!!! ShockedShockedShocked

But anyways - that has nothing to do with our community - it doesn't belong to me but to the members, and thus, I do not think I personally must pay for it. (once we did pay - now we have a few ads)

But of course - you are welcome to give a personal contribution - if you can afford it...  Tongue
