A new member, laurena86, has asked if we could post this advertisement about a television show on SPARTACUS. Since the sun is out today, why not. Links are below.

We also would like her to join us regularly on our cool show, though its only a forum, AllempiresSmile

EPIC GLADIATOR DRAMA “SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND” COMES TO BRAVO
Begins on Tuesday 25th May at 10pm

Not for the faint-hearted, the controversial Spartacus: Blood and Sand brings to life the bloody world of gladiators as the Roman Republic’s most brutal fighters clash in the ultimate arena, and depicts one of history’s most violent eras.

An unsparing and stylised 13 x 60 action series, Spartacus: Blood and Sand has been lauded by the critics for its reworking of the story of the rebellious warrior slave using cutting-edge digital technology and CGI graphics reminiscent of fellow genre blockbusters “The 300” and “Sin City”.

Don't forget to 'like' the official UK facebook page for all the latest news and video content:

It looks absolutely awful and I shall be boycotting it.

Ditto. The old movie with Kirk Douglas was great though.  Believe it or not it was used as an inspirational propaganda film amongst commies in Iran back in the day. My dad almost had a fit when it came on TV here almost two decades ago, he was on the phone to his old 'comrades' and everything, reminiscing.

Ha, didn't know that. Personally I loved the film, that beautiful scene at the end 'I AM SPARTACUS' will always be with me. The new tv series seems like typical Americanised tabloidistic sh*te though.

(On a sidenote, the only reason that the drama series 'Rome' wasn't completely awful was because the BBC was involved. Honestly, if that had have been left to any other American tv studio other than HBO, it would have become the typical tacky bullsh*t associated with any tv show Americans inevitably produce (With the exception obviously of most HBO shows, which consistently display a high level of competance. And some PBS shows)

Yeah, that one was extremely popular in the USSR as well. Was in movie theaters all the time until the 1980th... Smile

I haven't seen any actual footage yet however I'm told it's filled to the brim with sex and gore so it's almost guaranteed I'll love it. '300' was entertaining enough but it lacked sexual content, if this is could be called '300' with some porn thrown in then I say "perfect!".

The old movie with Kirk is great too of course and I've seen it several times, but this looks to be something quite different.
Sing, goddess, of Achilles' ruinous anger
Which brought ten thousand pains to the Achaeans,
And cast the souls of many stalwart heroes
To Hades, and their bodies to the dogs
And birds of prey

I am generally good w/ sex, blood and war, but Tis show IMO suks. I didn't like 300, not that it was historical, just that it was historic based and if I didn't like history, I wouldn't be on AE now eh? I loved Rome, it felt real. It seems dirty as it generally was. Not Hollywood's gem of earth, nice and shiny. ugh!

Yes Regi tons of sex, and Xena's nude in it.

Still sucks. Rome wasn't PG, but as MadGod says it felt more real. I hated 300, too so no surprise that I don't like this one.

So I gather, from this thread, that it's ghastly. Shame. The Kirk Douglas version was fun, and I seem to remember a version from the '90s that wasn't all that horrible.

Surely the sexiest show ever then.
