That time-frame makes sense. As I recall, that would be around the time that the Nestorian missionaries were, to a degree, suppressed. Zagros or someone who knows more than I can fill in the blanks, but as I recall there was a shift in dynasties; the Tang (?) favoured externs, while the dynasty that followed them returned to a more traditional, xenophobic policy.
