I've got both.   They are both first person shooters, but really quite different as far as gameplay is concerned.  BF3 is much more tactical, requiring more patienc, MW 3 is a run and gun style shooter where all you need are your wits and reactions.

I got fed up of the lag compensation inherent to MW3 and decided to get BF3 recently, but one's not really a substitute for the other considering how different and enjoyable they are in their own way.

Lag compensation is where people with good connections are have an artificial delay added to even the field with epople with poor connections.. alll good and well but they took it a little too far so now people with bad connections seem to have superhuman reflexes and can shoot you around corners you turned 2 seconds before.  I got the rage as a result and quit it.  But int eh few games where lag comp wasn;t such an issue it was great fun.

Both are silly but fun. But you will have a hard time with gunmasters who plays them 7/24... Please spare time for Paradox Interactive's Grand Strategy Games . Their depth will take away you from this world and bring you to the that particular games's specific era...

For Medieval Era, Crusader Kings II (it will be released in 14 February)
For Renesans Era, Europa Universalis III Chronicles (which includes all expansion packs)
For Victorian Era, Victoria II (plus A House Divided expansion pack, it released today)
For WWII Era; Hearts of Iron III (plus expansion packs Semper Fi and For the Motherland)

Man, I can't do those kinds of game anymore.  BF3 and MW3 you can just dip in and out of but when I play strategy games or RPG games I develop an unhealthy obsession with them.

I much prefer BF3. For the COD games if you've played one you've played them all. I don't mind it if I want some quick silly shooting but I can't tolerate it for too long unless I'm in the mood.

I think it's good fun, but I am just put off by the strike packages, super long ranged and powerful shotguns and out of this world snipers, akimbo weapons but most of all lag compensation... Actually that's a lot.  i can't believe I subscribed to Elite.  sh*t game.

The skill level in MW is crazy at the minute, either you're very good or you have to play noob a little to get something out of the experience. Either way it makes for frustrating playing, and spawns as usual are horrendous (but good for me because I'm an old hand at Cod4 spawn control Smile).

My favorite CoD4 setups was like these:

Run n Gun: any SMG, 3x flash, stopping power, steady aim.
Sneaky: silenced GC36, bandolier, uav jammer, eavesdrop.
Boom boom: AK47, 3x frag, sonic boom, martyrdoom.

Let me guess, you're so great that you take out enemies in frontal 1v1s before they even get a sniff?

Anyway, my favourite set-up was the MP7, stinger (I hate strike packages), frag and flash for run n gun and the AK-47 where there's a bit more distance element to the map.

I really liked the new Piazza map.  Liberation isn't too bad either, it's a sniper's wet dream.

Anyway, what platform you on? XbOX?  If so we can hook up.

I tend to Quickscope most of the time, but if I'm having a bad run of it, which is often, i go back to smg and rush. I was pretty good at COD4 (2.1KDR), pretty poor at MW2, and I've only played the new one a few times. It seems to me that you can't really be an 'ethical' MW player, you just have to hog all the fun to yourself by any means necessary and to hell with anyone else's enjoyment of the experience. For that reason, i don't really like them.

I'm PS3 btw.

Quick scoping snipers... *scorn and disdain* - play BF3 for some semblence of real life sniperhood.

I had a few games of MW3 after that last post and I hate it now.  BF3 makes you better at MW3 but the reverse is true with MW3.  The only thing that's better about it is the feel of the gun and the graphics and animation.

Shooting games are not healthy for most. When I was a kid I used to play counter with my friends all the time. It gives you rush to do evil Evil Smile. I have COD but it is pretty disturbing specially in street fighting. The loud noise of constant gun fires make me go berserk! I suggest you to try some better shooting games like the old west style. I saw a commercial video about something like "The red dead redemption" or something alike which sounded cool, you may try that.

I prefer strategy or RPG games.

I don't do games, but do love to get some of my guns up range and proceed to demolish homemade targets. I have over 100 antique guns. Every bolt action from the Warsaw Pact, to include the versions made in every Soviet satellite allied country, mostly Mosins, but not all.

Yeah I know Nordy....I know.

Recently my sister asked me "what's the house of your dreams?". I said, a house with a secret lair leading into a small arsenal of every kind of weaponry. Then she said "you are mad, you are evil!". It was all for self defence Evil Smile
