Well, I personally take racist jokes very easy without being a racist Smile Perhaps you are familiar with Uncle Ben's brand of half-cooked rice with different types of sauce. All cans or packages usually have a logo with  a black man's face on it. When it first reached Russia in 90s, the Russians used to mock at it by saying "Now Americans seem to have found a new way to get rid of their enslaved population by making us go on a cannibal diet"

Btw Tomas Sowell's personal attitude towards Russia and Soviet Union seems to be very mainstream for an average American person, which is demonstrated by multiple examples that Sowell placed in his book about how ineffective Soviet economy was.. So from political perspective Sowell seems to demonstrate very wise and politically correct attitude about SU Wink

"Uncle Tom" is a phrase from "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe.  In it there are two types of slaves, house slaves and field slaves.  The house slave (Uncle Tom) placates the master whom he has contact with every day.  The field slave does not.  By calling conservative blacks "Uncle Tom," self-proclaimed liberals are saying that they cowtow to the 'system.'  The self-proclaimed liberals believe that without their charity, blacks would still be victims, indeed, with their charity the blacks are still considered victims for which there is never enough.  None of this has anything to do with Hegel, (although maybe it should??).

Thomas Sowell was originally a Marxist, then he saw how governmental institutions pursue their self-interest (when he worked in the Department of Labor in Puerto Rico), instead of the interests of the people.  But, Marx actually seemed to care for problems of the poor.

Are you familiar with Jonathan Swift and his Modest Proposal to the problem of Irish famine?  Of course, peasant families during the Chinese Great Leap Backward, traded babies.  After all, you wouldn't want to eat your own baby would you?

Yeah, I remember they forced us to read that novel back at the time of my school... I think I never finished it..

I thought Swift died long before the famous Irish famine of 1840s. Surely I read his famous novel about Gulliver, that reading was fun. I never heard of his proposals on Irish famine though..

Cannibalism was not uncommon for Russia too till 1950s. In fact, back at the time of Imperial Russia (before the Revolution of 1917) we once had a famine of 1891-1892 and were greatly helped by the US that supplied some of their food stock. There is one painting by Russian artist Ivan Aivazovsky, which is called "The distribution of food". It refers to that famine and pictures the US flag. You can easily google it up. I dont think it was ever mentioned at Russian schools during Cold war time.

There is a famous cannibal buried in the Littleton Cemetery, the cafeteria of University of Colorado at Boulder is (jokingly) named after him, "the Alfred Packer Memorial Cafeteria."  He was in a group that got caught in blizzard in the mountains, everybody else froze to death, _then_ he ate them.

Yes, the 1840s famine, Swift was earlier, look up "A Modest Proposal," it is probably less than 10 pages.

Alvazovsky's art is beautiful, has a luminous quality to it.  That for pointing it out.  It is also good that we (U.S.) do some things right.

Apparently, in the potato famine, there was an American Indian Tribe (one of the civilized ones, on the trail of tears) that raised money ($100+) for the Irish, the Irish (Dublin, some town??) are so thankful that they gave several million dollars recently to the Navajo for Corvid 19 alleviation.  (Different tribe)

In Ralph Waldo Emerson's journal, he talks about one town that pledged to give 10% of their worth to help another town that faced flooding, they raised 13%.

So does this imply that the Irish famine of 1840s was well planned in advance long before it struck? Smile

You know, sometimes through Russian media we are told about an old legal case that was discovered from the historical archives, and the documents of that case may have a few comments written by own hand of a Russian emperor himself. Sometimes the comments may cast a shadow on how the emperor viewed certain things, his way of thinking. Sometimes they are enough in order to make it look as if emperor's policies were the very evil in their essence. But I always tend to doubt such findings because the comments on the papers could be written by anyone who is qualified enough in order to imitate other people's style of handwriting. I am not saying that the papers are necessarily forged, but one always has to pay attention to WHEN such findings became known to the public and think about WHY the moment was convenient for disclosing... Well, this may seem out of the context, just a bit of personal philosophy if you like Smile

Swift is a satirist, so no, it does not imply that it was planned in advance.  When someone proposes a "modest" proposal, you can be certain that it is something outrageous.  To call something a modest proposal is to invoke Swift, the forerunner of all "modest proposals"

Sowell is using data from US Civil War through WW1 & WW2 on to the late 20th century and comparing race populations

Diamond is going back to the 1990's, yes there are holes to poke.

Being Left is all ON YOU none of my business, i'm not trying to offend, just my word choice since Liberal or Democrat don't quite convey my opposition to the ideology.

Diamond is crying over a world trade system that was geared by US democrats to place the burden of supporting world organizations and international trade expenses on the US based on wealth of this nation.

This was not enough even as China uses slave labor and as we speak is co opting our real estate and institutions. Australia has effectively surrendered part of it's Northeastern port to China.

Glad a Trump supporter won the Nobel. Protectionism is a label, you know media. Since US is eating constant diet of migrants losses should be recouped when possible it's a large bill to pay, thanks EU/Merkel

J.Diamon also seems to be very critical of some of Frau Merkel's policies, including the military spending.. Smile

Economically and demographically Europe seems to be in a rather difficult situation, because unlike some other countries it does not hold sufficient energy resources. Europe has 7% of the world's population, its share of world's GDP dropped in the last 30 years from 25% to less than 20% and keeps on falling. At the same time Europe bears 50% of world global social spending as Douglas Murray righteously points ..

LOL

hate this emo, see what you made me do?

why do YOU THINK we spend so much?

see this Diamond character claims that EU is 50% of world's costs in retirement care?

that sounds like a problem with the pension system, promising things the computer programs predicted.

maybe that's why Chinese were HOT to find a new virus, get rid of some old folks. That's what was done in US.

deliberate disposal of older people by putting covid positive with covid negative patients in hospitals and nursing homes

-just for fun Sarkozy, Diamond's example-

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-11576712

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-11576712

Mr Sarkozy lost to Socialist candidate François Hollande in 2012 and retired from politics - but only temporarily.

Losing to Mr Hollande made him the first French president not to be re-elected for a second term since Valéry Giscard d'Estaing in 1981.

'Bling-bling' presidency

He sought the presidency again in 2016, but the Republicans - the rebranded UMP - instead nominated ex-Prime Minister François Fillon. The young and charismatic liberal Emmanuel Macron won the 2017 presidential election.

Critics nicknamed the 2007-2012 Sarkozy presidency "bling-bling", seeing his leadership style as too brash, celebrity-driven and hyperactive for a role steeped in tradition and grandeur.

At an agricultural show in 2008 he famously lost his temper with a man who refused to shake his hand. Mr Sarkozy told him: "Get lost, degenerate" - a rough translation of the vulgar expression he used.

I wonder on how demographics played with WWI, Influenza epidemic and WWII,  WWI destroyed the petit country bourgeois in England.  How did the fact that the youth were disproportionally killed of by these events affect attitudes.  I think that the Influenza epidemic of 1918 being hard on the young, and the Corvid 19 being hard on the old is kind of just "luck" of the draw.

Frankly, Vanuatu, as far as Economic Inequality is concerned, I would be more interested to find out why is it that in the US the share of SME sector in the economy (as % of GDP) is 51%, while in Russia it is only 17%? In fact, in Russia the medium-sized enterprise is the one with headcount between 100 to 250 employees, while in the US it is up to 500... Smile

Did read the report, it's fun making lines on a graph to illustrate a point, that's how Colin Powell helped convince the people of the US that there Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. Also that thousands and thousands of people were dead from covid (outside of nursing homes).

That time consuming analysis is buggered by the realization that all of the markets are manipulated and often if you aren't a big player you are sponsored by one.
There is no reason to doubt the evil it's a plot to enslave humanity and now there is more exposure of deep state /puppet master at top levels of obozo's administration what can be trusted from the publisher, Bloomberg? You know he ran against Trump for 5 minutes.

truth and more arrests everyday. Entire companies rise and fall on the say so big of banks, old families and political crimes.
