Over the past decade or so, in most western countries at least, governments have had to acknowledge that involvement in warlike pursuits was not necessarily a good thing, and that the voters are awake to all of the muscle flexing that goes and, and why.

For example, the American people, while supporting the actual troops on the ground, don't necessarily agree with the fact that their young men are in harms way and the reasons why they're there.

But, already in use is one answer to the public discontent over young lives lost in war - The Drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

Of course there are also land based drones and more recently, the US has been trialling sea going drones.

If this trend continues, with the speed of the evolution of technology that we commonly see these days, the days of the foot soldier, sailor and pilot is numbered.

With the likely increase in the use of unmanned vehicles, vessels and aircraft, and the accompanying loss of human lives, what will the protestors have to protest about.

It's not that I was born in Ireland,
It's the Ireland that was born in me.
