for some time I've been poking around on the web about news for the next Call of Duty even before Modern Warfare 2 came out lol... but there are significant rumors that it (Call of Duty 7) could take place in Vietnam or some other Cold War Conflict.

The game is supposedly going to be done by Treyarch (Call of Duty World at War)

The game interests me because I can't think of the last good Vietnam war shooter I've played besides Battlefield Vietnam and it was ...ok, but it looks like there could be some potential.

maybe for the campaign you can play as Capt. Macmillan when he was young before he was with Price. Or the guy before Macmillan.

one question though did the SAS serve in Vietnam, I think the Australian one did I dunno.

Well anyways...what do you guys think about a Call of Duty Vietnam?

I don't know. Call of Duty for WWII made a lot of sense because the narrative of being a soldier in WWII works well with the unspoken background idea that one is participating in a big and inevitable event.

Vietnam is a tragic work, and I don't know if that would be conveyed well.

On the other hand, if we are just trying to have a really cool game engine to represent Vietnam, then I think it will be cool. Call of Duty is one of the best; it is the only 1st person shooter that I actually bothered to play through the whole game.

A question: is there an enhanced realism mode? The one criticism that I had of CODII, which was the one that I played, was that one could run up and down and never tire. Having a tiring and exhaustion mode for those sticklers like me would be nice.

SPQR: Yes, the Australian and New Zealand SAS did serve in Vietnam. They had a kill ratio of 241/1, not that it means anything.

Would be a interesting turn for the series, and how they'd handle a loosing war... maybe finally both sides of the story... for a player's persecutive.

yes it would interesting hoe they would write out the story as they were able to write unique fictional stories for Modern Warfare 1 and 2 what would they make for Vietnam? maybe some campaign that intertwines with the war where you fight at the major battles of Saigon 68, Operation Hastings 66, seige of Hue who knows. Maybe they would feature the Green Berets and the LRRPS or MACV as one of the factions you play waging the war in Cambodia oh that's right, we weren't in Cambodia ever lol...

I would much rather them make another WWII shooter but playing as the Germans in the early years of the war or as the Japanese.

You Know I have always wanted someone to do that, there isn't one game out there where you play as the German and Japanese. I guess people are too timid to make a game playing as the "bad guy."

In Battlefield: 1942 you can play as the Axis, just sayin'.

Yes I know but Battlefield 42 wasn't wasn't really "story-based", you just had a bunch of maps with objectives mainly kill other team and capture their flags. I am talking about a Call of Duty or Medal of Honor type story-based fps shooter. Good point in mentioning Battlefield 42, one of my favorite games.

Speaking of Medal of Honor... They are currently working on a new Medal of Honor based in modern day Afghanistan. Seems like EA wants in on the consumer base that Infinity ward enjoys at the moment. Although the new MOH game looks nice and I have high hopes; I have a bad feeling that it is going to flop.

MoH games were never any good so I don't have much hopes of them making a good modern shooter.
